To the Ends of the Earth!
At a recent Upper Room, I had the privilege of casting the vision of FOCUS's Apostolate. At the heart of our ministry lies a very simple pattern--win, build, send--that is accomplished in the hopes of Spiritual Multiplication. Now I realize that I just threw a lot of FOCUS jargon at you, but allow me to explain...
Upper Room - a gathering of FOCUS student leaders (individuals who have committed to running Bible Studies and leading other students), where the missionaries take time to get everyone on the same page with the mission
Casting Vision - the art of conveying to people why we do what we do
FOCUS's Apostolate - our mission of knowing Christ Jesus and fulfilling the Great Commission by first living and then communicating the fulness of life within the family of God the Church by inviting college students into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church, inspiring and equipping them for a lifetime of Christ centered evangelization, discipleship, and friendships in which they lead others to do the same
Win - winning students over to ourselves and to Christ
Build - once they are won, we can equip them and help them grow
Send - sending students off into lifelong Catholic mission
Spiritual Multiplication - if each person effectively invests and shares the faith with a few people who share it with a few who share it with a few, etc, we can reach the world for Jesus
Now that you're in the loop, let me continue...
As FOCUS missionaries and student leaders, we seek to fulfill the Great Commission. Yes, the Great Commission--we want to make disciples of all nations and reach the ends of the earth with the Gospel! We have no small goals here, and, thankfully, with God all things are possible. In order to do this, we seek to use our resources effectively and efficiently and the best way to do that is by thoroughly investing in a few people, helping them cultivate a deep and meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ, and inviting them to go out and do the same for others. After all, this is Jesus' model. He changed the face of the planet by spending three years essentially going camping with twelve men! Then he sent them out to teach others to teach. Now, 2000 years later here we are in the United States of America...Catholic. If that isn't effective then I don't know what is!
